Porsche 911

G-Series (1973–1989)

The G-Series brought impact bumpers and, over a long run, the 2.7, the 3.0 SC, the 3.2 Carrera and the Turbo. It is the most usable air-cooled 911 for regular driving, with better rust protection than the earlier cars and a deep specialist network behind it. The 3.0 and 3.2 engines are durable but intolerant of skipped valve adjustments and oil changes.

Overview

Production 1973–1989

The G-Series brought impact bumpers and, over a long run, the 2.7, the 3.0 SC, the 3.2 Carrera and the Turbo. It is the most usable air-cooled 911 for regular driving, with better rust protection than the earlier cars and a deep specialist network behind it. The 3.0 and 3.2 engines are durable but intolerant of skipped valve adjustments and oil changes.

Sold from 1973 to 1989, when the 964 replaced it. Coupe, Targa and cabriolet bodies were offered, along with the Turbo and, from 1987, the Carrera. US-market cars used emissions equipment that European cars did not, and the 2.7-litre North American cars are known for thermal-reactor-related engine problems.
