Editorial standards

Garage Atlas is a reference, not an authority. These are the rules an editor follows before a record can carry a green badge.

Verified

Verified

A source is attached to the record, the link resolves, and the vehicle match has been confirmed by an editor. These records are safe to cite as a starting point — not as a substitute for a factory service manual.

Unverified

Unverified

The resource is indexed and useful, but no source is attached yet or the vehicle match has not been checked. Treat it as a lead, not a fact.

Needs review

Needs review

The record was once verified but its link, source or vehicle match may have changed. It stays visible with a warning until an editor re-checks it.

What we publish

  • Links to material that exists, with the original publisher named.
  • Generation-specific records — never a blanket claim across model years.
  • Original summaries written in our own words, kept separate from quotations.
  • Empty sections where no verified data exists, rather than filler text.

What we never publish

  • Invented part numbers, torque values, capacities or fitment guarantees.
  • Supplier URLs that have not been checked, or paid placement of any kind.
  • Citations we cannot point to.
  • Unpublished, retired or duplicated records — those stay out of the search index.

Corrections & outdated records

Every resource stores the date it was last checked. Records older than a year are flagged, and broken links move out of public listings until they are repaired or replaced. If something is wrong, send a correction through the contribution form — a broken or wrong record is treated as urgent.

Advertising & affiliates

Advertising slots on public pages are reserved but load nothing today. Affiliate destinations are stored in their own fields, separate from ordinary supplier links, and always labelled where they appear. Affiliate relationships never affect whether a supplier is listed or how a guide is described.
