Planning a disc brake conversion on a C10
Decide the target before you buy parts: wheel size, pedal feel and line condition drive the whole conversion.
Start with the target, not the catalog. A truck that tows and hauls needs a different brake package from a weekend cruiser, and the wheels you intend to run may decide which brakes physically fit.
Measure wheel clearance before ordering anything. Inner wheel diameter and spoke shape often rule out a conversion that looked fine on paper.
Decide whether you are keeping the truck manual-brake or adding a booster and which master cylinder bore suits the pedal feel you want. A mismatch here is the usual reason a converted truck stops worse than it did before.
Inspect the hard lines and hoses. Replacing calipers and rotors while leaving fifty-year-old steel lines in place is a false economy. Check the proportioning valve, the rear brake condition and the parking brake hardware as one system.
Finally, bed the pads in properly and re-check torque on every fastener after the first hundred miles.
